Making a Claim
We know it can be stressful if your vehicle is involved in a collision, but the sooner you report it, the sooner we can help you. You must tell us within 30 days of becoming aware of any incident that may result in a claim, even if you do not intend to claim for your own vehicle. Ensure you have your policy number and the details of the incident on hand before contacting us.
Remember, claims cannot be processed online, so be sure to come into our offices to register your claim.
Register your claim
When you come to us with a claim, there are a few things AutoSmart will do to make the process easier for you:
AutoSmart will:
- Give you a Claim Number to quote: With this Claim Number we can talk you through the process, including confirming for what you’re covered.
- In arranging the next steps, we will make preparations for the vehicle to be towed or be driven by you to a secured location.
- Your damaged vehicle will then be inspected by an Assessor appointed by us to agree the repair cost with the garage/repairer. The inspection should happen within five working days of the estimate being delivered to us.
You will be required to submit the following in order to process your claim
- An estimate for the repairs
- Driver's Licence
- Registration Certificate and Certificate of Fitness
- Police Accident Report (original required)
- A completed Claim Form
- Witness Statements where possible, and photographs, et cetera.
You should present copies of these documents or deliver them in person to our office, or your broker or to our dedicated Customer Service Centres.
When you make a claim at any time, an excess or deductible is your contribution, if we are unable to fully recover payment from a third party.
An alternative vehicle can be provided if you select the “Rental of Alternative Vehicle” option at the time of the policy inception/renewal, and paid the additional premium required.
All those features fall under our Comprehensive Insurance Coverage.
This policy covers damage to the motor vehicle due to collisions, crashes, overturning, fire, external explosion, self-ignition, theft, or a malicious act unless specifically excluded. It also allows for accrued legal liability and agreed costs and expenses against third party bodily injury/ property damage arising out of the use of motor vehicles unless specifically excluded.
Third Party Liability means that you are protected from loss against someone else’s property. There is no cover for damage to your vehicle.
This coverage is compulsory as per the Jamaican Road Traffic Act up to specified limits, which have been exceeded in the AutoSmart basic policy.
The cover is in respect of:
- Damage to the motor vehicle due to accidental collision, overturning, fire, external explosion, self-ignition, theft, or a malicious act unless specifically excluded
- Accrued legal liability & agreed costs and expenses against third party bodily injury/ property damage arising out of the use of motor vehicles unless specifically excluded.
Comprehensive coverage is available for vehicles up to 12 years old (15 years for PPV vehicles). Vehicles over 12 years (15 years for PPV vehicles) need to be referred to our motor team. The motor team will review each case and will be as supportive as possible in helping you with your requirements.

An NCD is a discount given on your policy premium. You earn an NCD if you make no claims under your insurance policy. But remember, your no claim discount is not transferable to anyone else.
It is not possible to transfer insurance coverage from one driver to another, because the insurance premium and terms of the policy are affected by the experience of the driver.
Remember, in order to license the vehicle, you must have confirmation of insurance in the name of the registered owner. But do not worry, it is possible for the names of additional persons to be on the policy. In such a case, claims will be payable to the named insured jointly.
