Scotia ‘A’, Gen Accident seek BH netball title

DEFENDING champions Scotiabank "A" and arch-rivals General Accident will square off in the Business House Senior netball final this evening at the National Arena, starting at 6:00.

The season will come to a close with the playing of four finals — Junior, Intermediate "B", Intermediate "A" and Senior leagues, to be followed by the presentation of trophies, medals and individual awards.

Scotiabank "A" and General Accident will be meeting in the second final of the season as the former beat their rivals in the Open League final.

This will also be the third meeting between the teams overall this season. In the preliminary round of the Senior League, the bankers emerged 44-35 winners over the insurance ladies.

The Winston Nevers-coached Scotia defeated Jamaica Constabulary Force "A", 84-15, while the Oberon Pitterson-coached General Accident defeated Jamaica Broilers, 51-36, in the respective semi-finals last week.

Having won eight consecutive matches leading up to today's final, Coach Nevers will be seeking to complete the season with an unblemished record while, player/coach Pitterson seeks to avenge a defeat by the defending champions.

"Both are two very good teams and our opponents should be much stronger with the return of key centre player Nadine Bryan who was away on national duties... at the recent... Commonwealth Games where the Sunshine Girls finished fourth in the netball competition," Nevers said.

Pitterson said her team is confident entering the final. "We have made some adjustments and we're looking no less than a victory today," she said.

"With the inclusion of Nadine Bryan... we'll have more options as was not there in our last game... Scotiabank will be coming... highly confident as they're a very good team," Pitterson said.

Meanwhile, unbeaten Jamaica Public Service will take on Digicel Jamaica in the Jamaica Infrastructure-sponsored Intermediate "A" final, starting at 5:15 pm.

Bureau of Standards Jamaica and South East Regional Health Authority will contest the Wisynco-sponsored Intermediate "B" League final, commencing at 4:00 pm, while Bank of Jamaica and LIME Jamaica will face off in the Wray and Nephew-sponsored Junior League decider at 3:00 pm.
